Drill screw holes in the sink carefully. You will also need some metal blind bolts to fix the metal plate. Take a round metal plate larger than the overflow hole in diameter. In that case, you need to follow the steps below. If it is the kitchen sink overflow drain or bathtub overflow drain, you might want to seal it permanently. Sealing Overflow Holes in Drain Permanently Check whether the drain is properly sealed by running water into the sink. These small gaskets will keep the installation firm and noiseless. But if it is a metal drain cover, you might need to use rubber grommets. If the drain cover is made of rubber or silicone, you can easily install them. Install the drain cover into the overflow hole.Choose a drain cover of the right size according to the diameter of the overflow hole.Check the following steps to seal overflow holes with drain covers. These covers can be made of rubber, silicone, or plastic. So, any pointy object might pierce the seal.Īnother easy and effective way to seal holes in sink drain pipe is to use drain covers. Now, open the tap and try to fill up the sink with water to check whether the seal is okay. For extra protection, you need to repeat the process from different angles. But if the tape is thinner, you should apply multiple strips to cover the hole completely. If the width of the tape is bigger than the hole diameter, applying a single piece should work. After cleaning the sink, it’s time to apply the tape.Once the surface is dry, look for any dirt or debris.Drain all the water from the sink and let it dry completely.Check them one after another.Ī roll of waterproof tape will be very affordable to seal the overflow hole. But I'd prefer a stronger, screw on "insert bar" device.Overflow holes in sinks keep your bathroom floor from flooding should the water level rises inside the sink. My internet searches have shown me a quickie fix that uses a plastic overflow tube inserted from the tub, down the overflow drain. The bar would need to have screw(s) holes threaded into it, that mate to a new overflow cover. What's your opinion that the screws protrude through the back of the brass overflow elbow? But if they can't be screwed out through the back, does anyone know of a quickie repair "bar", that could be inserted in the overflow elbow? That way the overflow cover could be screwed on through that bar. I'm seeking to postpone paying hundreds to replace the overflow pipe through those ways. There may also be cut out access from the garage below. The tub drain can have access through the wall, if its cut out. Their stubs are about 1/4", weak, very rusted, and they ain't coming out backwards (in my lifetime). My tub's overflow pipe is brass, and the two broken off screws in it are steel. Water has started leaking from my tubs overflow drain, down into a garage below.
